ARTIST NOTES: Original copper plate etching, signed by artist, numbered on Hahnemuhle 300gsm paper. Greek myth. The Goddess Demeter hid from being pursued in the form of a mare but the God Poseidon as a stallion found her.

ARTIST BIO

About Richard Payne

Born in Melbourne, Australia in 1957, Richard Payne is a figurative, narrative artist exploring movement, colour, energy and time with Altermodernist tendencies.

Payne commenced his artistic life studying architectural perspective in Australia with his mentor Robert W Gill, Thames & Hudson author of Basic perspective, Creative perspective and Rendering with pen & ink. Payne also studied classical realism painting at the Florence Academy of Art, Italy.  

Whilst in Florence, Payne developed & delivered a course on ‘Perspective for the Artist’ specifically designed for Academy students, he also consulted to practicing artists on perspective & composition and painted from his Florence studio.

Working primarily in oils, pastel and etching, Payne lives, works and teaches from his studio in Daylesford, Australia, returning to Europe regularly to paint & teach.  This year (2015) Payne has been invited to teach master-classes at the San Francisco Golden Gate Atelier (USA) and The Florence Academy METRO New York (USA). 

Payne's work hangs in private collections in Australia, Europe and the USA.
