\"Flowers are the embodiment of beauty. Alluring and captivating, floral forms that enchant and engage my mind. From their fragile petals. Their myriad of colours and perfect delicate structure, each flower is unique, exquisite perfection.
\r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\n \r\nExploring the Australian landscape, or charming old historic gardens is like entering a mystical kingdom where I become one with nature. Where colours leap out, begging to come play on my palette. I observe the light and its wonderful effects and dip my brush in them. I watch and wait. I return each day, each year. I wait till sunlit petals and illuminated colour dance with shadows in delightful harmony to create the images I photograph and transpose onto canvas. I endeavour to capture the fragility, vibrancy and delicate sensuality of the flower. To take the viewer beyond the ordinary. The perspective to which I paint my flowers is an expression of my emotion of awe and inspiration that led me to choose this flower above all others. Growing up in the QLD/ NSW border ranges, Sussanne developed deep love for nature.
The ‘Lost World’ Valley was her playground. Here she was free to explore, observe and create, inspired by the natural world around her.
Her first paints she made herself, from various crushed ochre colours found in the creek bed. These she mixed with Linseed oil and then painted on paper. She made her green tones from crushed leaves and reds from berries.
As her creativity began to flourish. Her father, finally allowed her to use his oil paints, and at the age of 16 she won 2nd prize for her first oil painting ‘Hahndorf Inn’ at the annual Beaudesert Art show. The painting sold immediately, stirring her enthusiasm to pursue an art career.
At the age of 17, Sussanne undertook studies at the Morningside College of Art in Brisbane. A part time career freelancing in the commercial art arena followed. Illustrative sign writing, stained glass window designs (‘Solothurn Chapel Maleny, QLD’) and mural painting distracted her for many years from her first love….of painting. The need to express her true passion, without restriction caused her to veer away from the commercial art scene when commissions started coming her way in 1992.
During this time Sussanne started experimenting more with different subject matter, supports and mediums, still establishing her own unique style, whilst teaching her skills to others along the way. In 1999 she began to exhibit in mixed exhibitions throughout galleries and venues on the Sunshine Coast and Brisbane. Since 2005 Sussanne’s work has increased in value. She has exhibited and sold work, throughout Australia, and Singapore, with her work also selling to collectors as far as Denmark.
